New videos with Tim Connell

I recently put up some new videos with mandolinist Tim Connell from our gig last year at Newberg Music. After a bit of hiatus Tim and I are back practicing together and will be out gigging more around town. We are recording some demo tracks this weekend, so look out for those here soon.

  1. I really like your piece Castle Kelly on Banjonews. I thought I had found all the odd tunings but this works for the piece. I play by ear but wonder what the x means in your tab and also what banjo you’re using. I’ve played guitars in a variant of Orkney tuning with a drone string. Hope to hear more of your stuff on banjo. (Don’t quite know where this is getting posted but trust it’s on your own site).

    Hi Ross,

Glad you liked Castle Kelly, that was a fun piece to put together. The X in the tab indicates a normal downward frail, but its not sounding a melody note. Its more like a muted note/percussive effect. My banjo is made by Brooks Masten, who lives here in Portland.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Anton
